However, Bremen team remained in fifth place in the local ranking with 29 points, one less than Borussia Monchengladbach, who conceded defeat with a 0-1 underdog in Augsburg.

Trinks missed a golden chance to double the advantage in the 39th minute, hitting over the crossbar in a one-on-one situation with Benaglio. Pizarro showed the young Trink how it's done, running onto a throw-in, dancing through the Wolfsburg defence and beating Benaglio for a 2-0 lead in the 45th minute, which was also the half-time scoreline. Wolfsburg appeared to score in the 46th minute but the guests were ruled offside. The Green-Whites pushed the lead to 3-0 in the 55th minute with Rosenberg fending off Schäfer and then beating Benaglio to the far left post.

Rosenberg nearly made it 4-0 after 68 minutes but hammered his blast off the post. Arnautovic however took care of business with the fourth goal of the game in the 71st minute as Pizarro fed the Austrian, who then beat Benaglio. Bremen once again failed to keep a clean sheet as Schäfer scored a consolation goal in the 86th minute.
