Low expects Germany to bounce back

Low expects Germany to bounce backGermany boss Joachim Low believes his young side are more hungry for success than ever following the disappointment of their Euro 2012 semi-final exit.

Low's men won every game as they stormed into the last four in Poland and Ukraine only to suffer a disappointing exit at the hands of Italy.

The semi-final defeat has lingered on into the start of the World Cup qualification campaign following a 3-1 friendly loss at home to Argentina last month.

But Low believes their Euro exit can be the catalyst that can drive them on to future success while he has also been impressed by the focus of his players since they reconvened this week.

"I can feel that this team is hungry to be successful after the disappointment of the European Championship,'' he said.

Despite the gentle start Germany have been handed as they bid to reach Brazil in 2014 - they host the Faroe Islands on Friday before a short trip across the border to Austria - Low is quick to be cautious.

"In the last qualification campaign we passed with flying colours but I am of the opinion that this group will be harder," he said.

"Sweden are difficult and the matches, especially against Ireland and Austria, are not automatic wins. The games against Kazakhstan and Faroe Islands are games we will be expected to win. We want to start by winning these two games and creating a base.''

Germany's defence has been an issue of concern after they kept just one clean sheet at Euro 2012 and were twice exposed by Mario Balotelli in the semi-final.

Low has responded by revealing he was set to restore Phillip Lahm to right-back, after using him on the left during the summer, with Borussia Dortmund's Marcel Schmelzer to fill his old role.

"He (Lahm) will be changed from the European Championship. He plays for Bayern anyway on the right side so we too will make this change,'' said Low, who looks set to be without Lahm's Bayern team-mate Toni Kroos.

"Kroos played only a limited role in training today. There is a question mark behind him,'' he added.
