Van Gaal to get healthy budget

Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal will be given a healthy war chest to mount a challenge for the Premier League title this season according to executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

The newly-appointed Red Devils boss is currently with the squad on their tour of the United States, while plans are being made to further strengthen the squad.

Left-back Luke Shaw and midfielder Ander Herrera have already been brought in but United are expected to add more quality to a side which finished outside the top four in the Premier League last term.

Woodward has insisted Van Gaal will be backed up to the hilt to bring success to Old Trafford in the upcoming campaign.

He said: "There is no budget, there is money. We are in a very strong financial position. We can make big signings. That doesn’t mean we are going to throw money around. Louis is the manager. We have a lot of scouting output through the last 12 months that is flagging various things to us.

"Louis is the one who makes the ultimate decision around who he wants in his squad. I am not going to force feed him with a player he has not selected. The reality is that we're not afraid of spending significant amounts of money in the transfer market.

"Whether it's a record or not doesn't really resonate with us. What resonates is a top, top elite player that the manager wants that is going to be a star for Manchester United."

The Red Devils are available at 6.00 to be crowned Premier League champions again in 2014/15, with Manchester City3.25 and Arsenal 7.00.

Don't forget, all Premier League matches are covered by the bet365 100% Euro Soccer Bonus, where you could earn a bonus of up to 100% on your returns on pre-match accumulator bets.
