AC Milan news Allegri credits Sampdoria after draw

Massimiliano Allegri insisted he was not disappointed after his AC Milan side drew 0-0 at home with struggling Sampdoria in Sunday.

The Rossoneri have had a tough start to 2013, narrowly defeating Siena last weekend before being eliminated from the Coppa Italia at the hands of Juventus in midweek, but were expected to take all three points from the relegation-threatened Genoa side.

However, Delio Rossi's men have improved recently and the Milan coach was quick to credit their performance.

"We did not throw away points, as don't forget we were facing a side that was capable of beating Juventus last week [2-1 in Turin]," he told Sky Italia shortly after the game.

"In the first half they pressed us more, then my players started to push and we should have done better in the final third. We kept a clean sheet and that is important. We moved the ball around fairly well, but had to pick up the pace and do it quicker."

Allegri went on to discuss the display of a new-look attacking trio of Bojan Krkic, Mbaye Niang and leading scorer Stephan El Shaarawy, all of whom are only 20 years old, as is defender Mattia De Sciglio. He admitted they all have much to learn but was impressed by what he saw.

"Niang had a good game, so did De Sciglio," he continued. "El Shaarawy has played many matches and is very giving of himself, so he was bound to feel tired eventually. Bojan showed some good things tonight.

"These games are often decided by incidents and we could have made more of them. I will not say the young trident was a failure. We do need to eliminate certain individual and superficial errors, but the team is growing.

"We are more organised and suffer less under pressure, as we saw against a good Sampdoria. If we can become more defensively solid, then that will also allow us to organise our attacking moves better."
