Roma agree deal for Strootman

Roma have agreed a deal with PSV Eindhoven to sign midfielder Kevin Strootman, the Dutch club confirmed on Tuesday.

Strootman, 23, has been targeted by Manchester United, Chelsea and Napoli this summer after an impressive season in the Eredivisie.

Since joining PSV from FC Utrecht two years ago, the Netherlands international has become a regular for the Oranje and last week revealed his future lies away from his home country.

Strootman's exit adds to the recent departure or Dries Mertens, who has joined Napoli, giving manager Dick Advocaat an unwanted selection headache as the new season looms.

PSV confirmed on their official website that Strootman has "travelled to Rome to undergo his medical examination and to reach a personal agreement" before he is officially unveiled as a Roma player.

PSV's sporting director, Marcel Brands, admitted it was difficult to let go of Strootman, but insists the terms of the deal, which are yet to be revealed, were too good to refuse.

"A transfer can not be stopped [when it is] for one of the greatest figures in the history of PSV," Brands told the club's website. "But it is also a large sporting loss."
