Mirko Vucinic and Claudio Marchisio scored goals for Juve. Douglas Maicon equalized for Inter for short. All three dropped goals in the first half of the match.

Mirko Vucinic put the Bianconeri in front in the 12th minute, but Maicon levelled for the hosts in the 28th minute. Claudio Marchisio restored Juve's advantage in the 33rd minute and he was unlucky not to earn a penalty just before half-time.

Inter were unable to find a way back into the game and succumbed to their fifth defeat in nine games to risk dropping into the bottom three of Serie A this weekend.

But despite the disappointing result, Ranieri has stated that he remains optimistic of a late title challenge.

"I am satisfied with the performance, especially in the first half," he told the press after the match. "They scored with the only two chances they had.

"We must not look at the table, because there are 84 points [sic] still available to gain. Surely it is better to win than to lose, but there are still many points to be won.

"Are Juventus Scudetto-worthy? Yes, the side is working well. But I have not given up. The game was equal. All in all, I did not see Juventus dominance."

The coach then turned his attention to the fixture against Lille at San Siro on Wednesday in the Champions League, with his side currently sitting atop Group B, while also defending his decision to substitute Mauro Zarate at half-time against Juve.

"I have injuries to deal with. The defeat must not have repercussions on a psychological level, because in sports one can either win or lose," added the coach.

"Zarate was well, I substituted him as a technical choice. I told him 'You do not deserve to go off, but I must help the squad on the wing.'"
