Household setback for Juve

serie a live betsThe leader in the Serie A Juventus in the second straight game failed to reach three points. Goalless draw against Chievo was followed by a disappointing 2-2 in the household of Genoa.

The hosts started brightly with Mirko Vucinic linking up well with strike partner Matri, but the latter’s looping header was held easily by Sebastien Frey in what was the first chance of the game.

But only moments later, Matri would get on the scoresheet to put the home side ahead after a long range effort from Claudio Marchisio was met by the Italian striker, whose instinctive flick sailed past Frey.

Juve were looking comfortable in controlling the game with Matri in particular looking dangerous. He could have grabbed his second in the 25th minute when he latched onto a great ball from Andrea Pirlo on the edge of the box. The former Cagliari man created some space for himself before forcing a smart save from Frey.

On the half-hour mark, the visitors equalised through Marco Rossi. A lovely cross from Alexander Merkel on the left flank was met by a the captain with a powerful header to put the Rossoblu back into the game.

Just before the break, Alesandro Conte’s side should have re-taken the lead after an awful pass from Miguel Veloso left Vucinic with a great chance but the former Roma striker was denied by a fine save from Sebastien Frey.

The second half began with the action swinging from end to end. First, Matri was denied by an excellent save from Frey before an exquisite flick from Merkel almost put the visitors ahead.

But the Old Lady did regain the lead just before the hour mark with the impressive Matri striking again when he applied a simple finish to a great pass from former Milan midfielder Pirlo.

Juventus looked the more likely to score again with both Vucinic and Matri spurning chances, but with five minutes to go the visitors equalised through substitute Caracciolo. The striker slotted past Storari from a tight angle after an excellent knockdown from fellow substitute Juraj Kucka.

Juventus have now drawn four of their last five Serie A outings, but remain top of the table with 13 points from seven games. Antonio Conte's side are back in action in midweek when they entertain Fiorentina on Tuesday, while Genoa take on Roma on Wednesday.
