Bayern hint at quiet winter transfer market

Bayern Munich said they will be selling none of their players during the winter transfer period as they look to continue challenging at home and abroad, chief executive Karl Heinz Rummenigge told the club's website Tuesday.

Rummenigge did not say whether the German league leaders, who are also on the verge of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages, would be looking to reinforce in January.

But he said: "We're not selling any of our players. The coach (Jupp Heynckes) doesn't want to, and I totally agree with him.

"We have quite a small squad of 20 players, which is the absolute minimum. I hope we're still in contention in all the competitions we're involved in after Christmas, and in that case we'll need every one of them."

The German Bundesliga takes a winter break from December 19 to January 20.

Bayern have a five-point lead on reigning champions Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga ahead of Saturday's encounter between the pair at Bayern's Allianz Arena.

Bayern are also unbeaten in the Champions League where they lead Group A. Their home match against Spanish side Villarreal next Tuesday should see them into the last 16.
