Netherlands' Wesley Sneijder plays down importance of Germany clash

euro 2012 liveNetherlands midfielder Wesley Sneijder has played down the importance of Tuesday's friendly against Germany, stating it will not have any impact on their Euro2012 campaign next summer.

Sneijder played the full 90 minutes of his nation's 0-0 stalemate against Switzerland on Tuesday and is expected to take to the field against Joachim Low's men midweek. Many have said the game will provide the Netherlands with a good chance to test themselves versus one of the best sides in the world ahead of next summer's European Championships.

However, Sneijder has a different opinion."The game against Germany is not important for the European Championships. Why would it be? It's not as if we get extra points for the Euros. They're a good opponent to practice against. We will have to give our full concentration against Germany to win," the playmaker told ANP.

"Germany speak quite rightly about winning the European title. In that respect, Tuesday will see two teams who both feel they can win the European Championships."Sniejder's international team-mate Jori"We will see who is the best out of the two but the game will say little about next summer's European Championships," he affirmed.Sneijder was part of the Dutch team who reached the World Cup final in 2010, eventually losing out to an injury-time Andres Iniesta goal.
