"Is Wesley definitely not for sale? I don't think there's anything that can't be sold, it all depends on the price. You never say no if a big opportunity comes your way, but it does have to be a real opportunity."

United's chief executive David Gill recently went against his manager's official line, however, declaring that United could sign one more "world class" player.

“There’s no point, if you can’t get the players you want, in buying someone for the sake of buying someone. But we are looking at one more player to bring in." said Gill.

"Nothing’s happening — nothing imminent — on that at the moment, but we’ll see what happens when we get home [from the United States]. There’ll still be 31 days of the transfer window to see if anything develops.”

Manchester City's wantaway striker Carlos Tévez may then join Inter if funds from the sale of Sneijder become available.

Of Tévez Paolillo said: "We can't stop him from coming to Milan or going to the same beaches as [Inter chief Marco] Branca, but we're not going there looking for him."
