UKRAINE boss Oleg Blokhin is determined to prove there is life after Andriy Shevchenko as he looks for revenge at Wembley tomorrow.
Former Chelsea striker Shevchenko, 35, retired after England knocked Ukraine out of Euro 2012 in a defeat that still upsets Blokhin.
Blokhin insists his younger players are ready to take up the mantle from Ukraine’s old guard with keeper Oleksandr Shovkovskiy and former Liverpool forward Andriy Voronin also quitting international football.
And there is nothing he would like more than to see his side turn over England.
The Ukraine gaffer is still upset at the “ghost goal” that wasn’t given during his side’s 1-0 loss to England when John Terry cleared Marko Devic’s shot even though the ball had crossed the line.
Blokhin said: “If we had beaten England at Euro 2012 we’d have become stronger with every game.
“The referee made a mistake and it hurt us.
“We dominated the game and did not deserve to lose. We surprised England and can do it again.
“We had more possession, we can keep the ball well and my players will look to do the same again even without the likes of Sheva.
“He was a natural leader but I’ve said to my young players that one of them must now be a leader of the team.
“They are adults and it’s time for them to acquire leadership virtues.”
